Court dismisses Aeroflot flight case
The Colombo Commercial High Court has dismissed the case pertaining to Russia’s Aeroflot aircraft.
The case has been dismissed with cost by the Colombo Commercial High Court when it was taken up for hearing today.
The Russian Aeroflot airline was detained at the Katunayake Airport on 04th June 2022 over a private legal dispute.
The aircraft was detained following an injunction order issued by the Colombo Commercial High Court on the matter.
Arrangements were thereafter made for the Aeroflot flight to leave for Moscow on 6th June.
The flight was permitted to leave after measures were taken with the involvement of the Prime Minister and Justice Minister.
Sri Lanka’s ties with Russia had immediately soured due to the detention of the flight.
Following investigations, then Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe had instructed to interdict the Fiscal Officer of the Colombo Commercial High Court.
The Fiscal Officer was charged with having abused his powers in connection to the injunction order issued against the airline.
