“I strongly believe Ranjan will be released” – Sajith

I strongly believe Ranjan will be released Sajith

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has once again called for the release of imprisoned former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake, in view of Sri Lanka’s 74th Independence Day.

Speaking to the media after visiting Ramanyake this morning (03), Premadasa stated that he “strongly believes” the ex-MP will be released tomorrow.

Ramanayake was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court on 12 January, after he was found to be in contempt of court in connection to statements he has made to the media regarding the judiciary.

Premadasa claimed that Ramanayke was a “man of the people”, who dedicated his salaries, allowances and other beneficial grants towards the betterment of the public, adding that “as an artiste too, he did a great service”.

“I request the President to give priority to humanity and release him tomorrow. I make this proposal for the sake of humanity”, Premadasa urged.
